Topic 9: Denosumab in Giant Cell Tumor of bone: Hero or Villain?

Abstract:
Denosumab is used as an adjuvant in the treatment of giant cell tumor of bone in the past decade. This aims to review the current evidence on the use of denosumab in the operable cases, inoperable cases and those cases which surgical treatment carrying significant morbidities. Despite being a “HERO” in facilitating surgeries if used sensibly, the drug creates difficulties in surgeries and becomes a “VILLIAN” if used too liberally. From a surgeon’s perspective, a framework on the use of denosumab will be discussed.
